i dont understand the emo culture

i know that the trend these past years have been about men going for crazy hairstyles like spikes,or wearing it long like those Taiwanese boys, i also understand that there's been an ongoing fad about tattoos or wearing more than 1 pair of earrings in some uncharted regions in the human body, or of women wearing really tiny clothes or really slim, skinny jeans or of the trend of celebrities shaving their heads. but this one i can't get myself to understand. when has the trend of cutting oneself ever look good?

This is dangerous, mamaya matetano pa kayo. Truthfully this form of self expression is very different, if not disturbing. Why is everything emo so ...emotional?, im sure people get hurt and heartbroken all the time but those guys are like celebrating sadness, depression and negativity. To me it's like screaming "hey i love being miserable, let me just sulk here in my dark place". Sure life has its down times but life is altogether beautiful. There's so many things to celebrate about this existence. It's easy to be miserable but there are so many fun and precious moments that life has to offer. Dont let them pass you by. Dont cut yourselves. Cut that cr@p.

The reason im so concerned is because my brother is a self-confessed emo boi. I hope he grows out of it. i hope this generation grows out of it. just like my father grew out of wearing bell bottom jeans in the 70's haha (he now cringes when he sees his old pictures). But then again, for those who are fans of the emo style, defend yourselves and let me understand about the culture. Maybe i am just ignorant or maybe not.

My bro too, but he keeps on denying he's one of 'em. Punks daw sya hindi emo.

I believe they will outgrow it.. Fashion. Influence din cguro ng music ngayon or sa peer, but they need attention, nagbibinata eh, ahaha!

i think it's just a phase. he will outgrow it. maxado lang siya siguro influenced ang society lalo na dahil adolescent na siya--prone to personal crises...

emo-uhmm...yung iba fashion lang. yung iba the way they behave or feel. yung iba pareho.

i think i'm an emo but not 'that' dark. hehe!

thanks for the comment :P

I agree with this post...
I don't also understand the emo culture though I try to respect those who practice it...

I don't understand kung bakit even yung mga bagay na hindi naman dapat pino-problema ay pilit nilang pino-problema or that kahit maliit na bagay lang ay todo drama na sila...

I don't also understand the 'cutting-up' thingy that they do...God, yung iba nga diyan nagpapa-bello pa para kuminis yung skin eh...anyway, I think cutting up your self without sensible reason is so pathetic...

I believe there's a fashion (fad) emo and there's a psychologically disturb emo.

I think most kids just are in the fad/ fashion one. Even elmo (sesame street) had jump on the band wagon (search for it in youtube, emo elmo).

Yeah, your bro will grow out of it soon. By college he'll probably become a rakista, then after that preppy preppy na. hehe. I've had a roller coaster phase myself. hehe.

Sabe sa Monster radio, Emo are those depressed people who expressed their grief in front of audience.

In short, mga emoterong KSP!

for some people (yung mga parang kelangan na ng prozac) misery is familiar and not to mention confortable. for our little brothers, haha, it's too much MTV. :) feeling ko lang. haha

Okay so it is really dangerous but i'm an emo. i don't slit my wrists at all but being an emo is about expressing yourself in a different way. some people do it through music, blogging, self harming etc. but that is just the way the world works. if people want to express theirself that way they can. they usually do it because they feel like stuff is bad in their life.

dont diss emos hahaa. ;)

I don't think you should call it pathetic, even though that is your opinion. Simply because people slit their wrists doesn't mean they are emo, cutting your wrists is just another way to express sadness. Some people cry, some people just keep it bottled up, some even burn themselves, and some... cut. I have done it before and regret it since the scars are not pretty, they can still tell a story. You would understand that it's just a way of expressing an emotion, and to some people, it can even be a way of decorating their bodies (which I'm kind of against but I respect it). People are people, gotta except it.

Emo is just another word for feeling alone I would know I am one. Sadly to me, this life doesn't cut it. It's nothing but sad seeing everyone I lived die in front of me. Being emo isn't a bad thing, we are just a lil mor sensitive than others. Emo people are usually hella nice and super sweet. Don't say we are pathetic or that we r selfish cause were not, were sad. At least I am.

First of all, it's not just about being 'emo'. If cutting would be part of being emo, anorexia would be part of being a model, that's how i see it. Cutting is definitely a form of expression. It doesn't only have to be the result of depression or a tragedy but it can be. Some people like to cut, they like the feeling, the blood and the scars, like me for example. Those who don't understand this would call me crazy but isn't it always like that? Some people love sky diving, while for others it would be a nightmare and call skydivers crazy. I consider my scars as a tattoo. They tell a secret story. I don't talk about my life, I don't keep a diary. My scars show that secret part of me. Most people don't even know they exist. When I'm alone, I cut, think about death and live in my own dark world but with my family and in school I laugh I play along, I run around and enjoy myself. Would you call me crazy? Well, at least I feel alive. I live both worlds.
